Crafts

I am not what anyone would consider a "crafty" person, but I do love to design and I love to try new things. I like to scrapbook, make cards, and do crafts for my girls. I don't sew, and most of my projects are pretty simple, but I figured that  not-so-crafty people like myself will appreciate seeing crafts that they can do too.

Craft # 1: Bow Holder
This is a craft that I made up myself because I needed something for all of the bows I had for the girls.

What you need: Wood cut to size (I went to home depot and had them cut it there)
1 piece flat, 4 pieces for the edges
                           Staple Gun
                           Fabric to cover the board
Several different color and size ribbons
                           Glue Gun

 Total Time: 2 Hours

After I had the wood cut at Home Depot, I used a craft staple gun to attach the edges of wood to the back of the board. I then covered the board in fabric and stapled it to the edges of the board in the back. I lined up the ribbons the way that I wanted them and then stapled them to the edges on either end, leaving the ribbon a little slack so I could later attach bows.
I then used a glue gun and attached the "princess" ribbon to the larger ribbon and then glued the finished ribbon onto the board.
Then you are ready to add the bows.

Craft # 2: Family Blocks

What you need:
                           Wooden blocks cut to size
Vinyl letters in the color that you want
                           Acrylic Paint
                           Painting sponge
                           Scrapbook paper
                           Stickers
                           Ribbon

Total Time: 2 Hours

I ordered the wooden blocks and vinyls online. When they arrived I sanded the blocks and painted them with acrylic paint. I then measured and cut scrapbook paper to fit the blocks. I used craft glue to attach the paper and then added the vinyl on top of the paper. I then added the embellishments.

Craft # 3: No- Sew Tutu

I found this craft on the Family Fun website and decided to try it out. You can click on Family Fun for the full tutorial. This craft was fun, but it took a lot longer than I expected, almost two hours. I measured Laneah's waist with elastic and then cut it to fit her.  I then  tied the elastic around a large book.
I cut the tulle into 14 inch strips and stacked two pieces together and then tied them to the elastic as shown.

After I made one for Laneah, I made one for her best friend Coco. She loved having a matching tutu for him.
Tip: I found the tulle in the wedding aisle at Michaels. For this tutu I used pink and purple. You can make your tutu the same color or multi-colored depending on what you want.
Craft # 4 : Drawing Dough
This is a really fun craft for children that I also found on Family Fun.  It is basically puffy paint that you make at home.
Materials
  • 2/3 cup each of water, flour, and salt
  • Washable tempera paints
  • Squeeze bottles (we got ours at Michael's for $2 per 2-pack)

Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the water, flour, and salt (the dough will be just barely pourable).
  2. Step 2 - Drawing Dough Divide the dough between two bowls and stir a few drops of washable tempera paint into each. Pour the dough into squeeze bottles.
  3. Protect your work surface, then have your artist create colorful designs on thick construction paper or card stock. Leave them flat to dry (drying times will vary depending on the dough's thickness).
Laneah had a blast doing this craft.
