Girls on the Run

This year was the first year that our school participated in Girls on the Run. It is a fabulous program that teaches girls to overcome challenges, handle peer relations and problems, positive thinking and believing in yourself and others. The idea is that in the beginning, the thought of doing a 5k seems impossible, but by the end, all the girls complete it. Plus, exercise is a great way to feel good about yourself.

The girls on the practice run around the parkway.
Race day! They had girl music pumping through the park, pink hair spray, and good vibes. I made this poster for Laneah and got some cheer pom poms from the Dollar Store for Sawyer and Brooklyn to use.

Every girl had a running buddy, and Laneah ran with her Aunt Jen.

She did great and completed the race!!!

The following week they had a little party with ice cream, a slideshow and awards. Laneah got the "Go Go Get 'Em" Award. Her coach wrote a sweet note about Laneah and read it and then presented it to Laneah with her award and a mirror.

I cannot say enough about this program. We had amazing coaches as well.  It is such a great thing for girls. I definitely want to put Laneah in this again next year, and Brooklyn when she is old enough.

Way to go Laneah!!!
