Goddard Space Flight Visitors Center

This week Laneah had a field trip with her preschool to the Goddard Space Flight Visitors Center. Before we went in, Laneah's teacher, Ms Debbie, read the kids a story about space and the kids sang a few songs as well.
We started off in a room with this giant sphere that had different images of space projecting on it. Laneah decided it was boring and she was hungry so we had to leave this part and go outside. (Note, she did not get a snack for this behavior). She wanted to leave and I was tempted to, but we ended up staying.
We met up with the group in the next room where a NASA worker was talking to the kids about space. He brought a space suit and different types of food they eat in space. He was great with the kids and really funny. He had all kids cracking up when he said they have to wear diapers in the suit. Laneah didn't seem too happy, but she sat with the other kids and paid attention.

After this presentation, the kids really got to have fun. The staff had made three different rockets and conducted an experiment. They put half of an alka seltzer and a cap full of water in the rocket. Then we all counted down and yelled "blast off" and the rockets shot up. The kids loved it.
Then the field trip was over and the kids got to play in the center. They had toys, dress ups and interactive areas.

The kids favorite place was of course the shuttle.
I love this picture. Like "lets get this done, I'm on a mission!" She thought the helmets were really cool.

They had some awesome pictures of space. These two were my favorite:

We went outside for a few minutes to look at the rockets and shuttles that been in space. You can see Laneah running to the rocket; it is so big!

It ended up being a lot of fun and Laneah has been telling everyone about it. We will have to come back and bring Brooklyn next time.
